:: Ladi6 - Time Is Not Much

Ladi6

Anyone who saw Ladi6 perform at the St Kilda Festival would have walked away wondering ‘I wonder where I can get her album from’… well now the wait is over, her debut album ‘Time Is Not Much’ has surfaced. This New Zealand songstress is taking a big risk. She has stepped away from the success she found with groups such as Sheelahroc and Verse Two and taken the risk on a solo album. But when you have a unique voice and the talent she has…why wouldn’t you. Being able to record with artists such as Scribe and Sepalot while touring with the likes of 50 Cent have given the courage to know this album can work. ‘Time Is Not Much’ is a real showcase of Ladi6’s talent. ‘Give Me The Light’ shows us that she has a voice very similar to Grace Jones while ‘Call You Out’ is smooth R&B at its best, as is ‘More Than Fake’. The laid back ‘So Far’ shows a sexy and seductive side to Ladi6 and is literally screaming out to be a single. The sexiness continues with ‘Down & Out’ while ‘Walk Right Up’ is just the right mixture of reggae and R&B. ‘Question?’ reveals a great song writing talent and then after the experimental ‘Time Is Not Much’ this album heads into a new area… not that this is a bad thing. ‘Believe Me’, ‘Jacknife’ and ‘Dark Brown’ all consist of a funky electro sound that is amazing to listen to. A great debut solo album for Ladi6 that really captures the New Zealand urban sound. Ladi6 deserves to be as big as Rihanna.
