:: Layla - HeretikLaylaThis may not be to everyone’s taste, but, in the growth of the hip-hop scene in Australia, it’s refreshing to see the creative instincts of somebody like Layla. Boy, can this girl pack a punch in her full-frontal lyrics! She certainly doesn’t seem inhibited by the desire to express her thoughts and she is to be commended for giving this her all. Layla is part of the growing roster at Obese Records and “Heretik” is her outlet to express some forthright views. “Hushed Up” is just one example of highlighting an injustice in Layla’s world – the social and political problems of today - and delivers a serious tone. Another highlight is “Fatal Pressures”, seemingly very personal to Layla. The guests include Downsyde, Clandestein, Hunter, Drapht, and Dazastah. The album is profound in parts, with the feisty Layla showing what she is capable of. The language is very strong and heated, perhaps too confronting for some, but it’s original and simply something that Layla felt compelled to do. | ![]() |
