:: Lisa Chappell - When Then Is Now

Lisa Chappell

It’s interesting to note that Lisa Chappell, an accomplished actress well known for her work in the TV series, McLeod’s Daughters, was cited as a potential recording artist a couple of years ago. However, she declined the offer as she wished to have as much control as possible on her musical career. Now, she has released this self-funded album and it’s probably going to have a select listening group. There are country-tinged elements as well as a folk undertone. The tracks are mostly gentle and of a heartfelt nature. Lisa has the capabilities of a big sounding voice yet it took me a couple of songs to “find” the CD. I like the more uptempo numbers as the first two tracks didn’t really inspire because of being slightly slow and tedious. But there will be those who will like them. The songs may not have fitted the mould for a major record label anyway, thus Belinda’s motivation for control. It’s now up to her to look at live shows, in-store appearances and as much promotion as possible or else any momentum will have been lost. There is likely to be a strong push into the international markets too. All said and done, this is her creative effort and she should be commended for giving it a shot.
