:: Lisa Edwards - State of the Heart

Lisa Edwards

To me, Lisa Edwards means John Farnham and the early ‘90s hit, ‘Cry’. Not sure if that’s a good thing, but not one to be narrow minded, I found this album quite interesting. State of the Heart is an album of famous Australian songs with Lisa’s own interpretation. It is a very wise decision on a covers album to sing tunes made famous by the opposite sex as this way the artist rarely sounds like they’re mimicking the original. Her sultry and experienced voice adds a jazzy, somewhat melancholy vibe to Mondo Rock’s Come Said the Boy, Daryl Braithwaite’s Horses and a few obligatory INXS, Chisel and Crowded House tunes. Lisa even pulls off a version of Kylie’s Put Yourself In My Place. This is an album for those who love Australian classics and that jazzy, lounge vibe, and surprisingly, I think I’m one of them.
