Little Barrie

English trio Little Barrie has just released their debut self-titled EP and it’s a prelude towards the debut album early in 2005. You’ll notice in the credits that the producer is Edwyn Collins, a name remembered for a one-hit wonder “A Girl Like You” in the mid-1990s. This EP showcases a blues and roots feel with cool grooves thrown in. There is plenty of energy and a good way of introducing themselves to those outside of the UK, in particular. The EP contains mostly bluesy elements and that is captured immediately on opening track “Burned Out”, while the third track “Thinking On The Mind” where a strong vocal outshines the laidback blues approach. It’s more of a seducing and absorbing track and a highlight of the CD. Little Barrie shows a good deal of subtle and melodic musicianship and I look forward to the album.
