I’ve had a high opinion of Loene’s talents for a few years now and it’s terrific to see this performer release a wonderfully sparse and engaging set of songs. Loene sings from the heart and also plays tambourine and guitar. She receives the services of a couple of capable musicians in The Mess Hall’s Jed Kurzel, The Dirty Three’s Warren Ellis and Cathy Green. They assist on mandolin, harmonica and violin. The album has a blues-country feel at times and is mostly gentle and lush with Loene’s innermost feelings. She does it in gritty, determined fashion and demonstrates her ability purposefully. She is becoming an all-round performer, having been nominated for an AFI Award this year for her acting talents. The sky is looking brighter because of people like Loene Carmen.
