:: Louis XIV - Slick Dogs And PoniesLouis XIVFrom the outset Louis XIV are more than just a straight up rock act. They‘re trying to do more with their music than just strum out on guitars, bang out inane vocals and prance about the place like posers. The music on their latest offering 'Slick Dogs And Ponies’ is kind of a cross between Muse meets glam rock, with a heap of sleaze thrown in for good measure and a little garage-punk attitude on the side. It might seem a peculiar mix but have a listen and you‘ll see what I mean. Songs like 'Air Traffic Control’ are ambitious in their approach and might sound like a back yard brawl with T-Rex and David Bowie, but it succeeds. It‘s different sure, but it works! The song 'Misguided Sheep’ is a little heavier in its tone and vocal delivery but again pulls it off where others would fail, hell they even use a string arrangement to leave you scratching your head. There‘s no doubt this music will divide some, but I hear of lot different stuff and so when a band tries to push the boundaries (as Louis XIV do) and they succeed, you have to give credit where credit's due. Sure, it's a little over the top and may become all too easily disposable but if in that time you jumped about the place or danced some crazy arse moves, then as far as I'm concerned this album has served its purpose. 'Slick Dogs And Ponies’ gets two thumbs up from me. | ![]() |
