:: (The Real) Tuesday Weld - I, Lucifer(The Real) Tuesday WeldIt’s a very unique release, conjuring up images of nostalgia in a very theatrical style. You’d think you might be thinking pre-World War 2 in the jazzy vaudeville fashion. The crooning sounds are often ethereal and morbid. Then it will lift your head up to a positive and sometimes cheeky sound. These soundscape and moodswings are the creation of Stephen Coates and he deserves some credit for the arrangements. Some of the good excerpts of his moods are “One More Chance”, with music like a David Lynch soundtrack, plus the house-laden spirit of “Bathtime In Clerkenwell”, a real sweeping, invigorating track. The beats and toe-tapping features will linger in the mind for some time and it’s somewhat of a triumph for Coates in that the wicked textures and odd computer instrumentation charts him into a hemisphere of his own. His observations are sharp and humorous. Because of the musical dexterity and superb arrangements, “I, Lucifer” can be summed up, improbable as it might seem on the surface, as one of the most dynamic CDs you’ll hear in 2004. | ![]() |
