:: Lydia Phillips - Hibiscus January

Lydia Phillips

It is very pleasing to see a young local talent begin to assert herself on the music scene and in the “do-it-yourself” way. I have known about Lydia Phillips for a couple of years and was waiting to hear of her debut recording. She now has her reward of an excellent EP “Hibiscus January” that contains gorgeous melodies and soft sweet songs that she should be very pleased with. In working with a good group of musicians, the musicianship shows up well and there are some really good catchy, feel-good songs. My thoughts were reinforced at her EP Launch recently when, with full band working cohesively, Lydia displayed her charm and musical sensibilities to provide a beautiful performance. I was surprised how many fans showed up at the launch - an excellent crowd who are also well aware of Lydia's talent. The EP shows off an even set of tracks, no standouts, just consistently good vocals and intimate thoughts. Perhaps the uptempo numbers shows Lydia at her best, able to get out of her shell and express her pleasant personality even more. This is a very good start to hopefully a long, successful career.
