:: Madeleine Peyroux - Careless Love

Madeleine Peyroux

Preceding artists have been able to help open doors for people like Madeleine Peyroux to make their mark. It has been a while since her last album and the jazz sensibilities of her music may have seen her recordings banished to the back of record stores. However, modern times have meant modern tastes have changed and her music has been well received by the wider media. The France-based American displays a lovely mix of jazz and blues in a smooth way. She covers some of her influences such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Hank Williams and gives them her own interpretations – creating the right soft-lit night atmosphere in which to consume the songs. An excellent band capably backs her, noting the fine piano work in particular. There isn’t the full emotional impact that I might have expected on this recording, but it would be interesting to see her perform live in a way to fully realise the heartfelt feelings.
