:: Mariah Carey - The Emancipation Of MimiMariah CareyDogged by adversity over recent years, in terms of a nervous breakdown and failure of her previous album and feature film, many people were starting to write off Mariah Carey as a fading star. Well, we can report that she is back in great form, in what is a tremendous comeback recording. She has returned to the top, aided by the involvement of expert producers in the R&B field, that have helped add some bite and steength to her music. The adventure into soulful musical elements has paved the way for this album to fire up. Guest artists that have lent their support to juice up the stakes here include The Neptunes and Snoop Dogg. Mariah’s own voice has now got that older, experienced tone and will satisfy fans. The track with Snoop Dogg, “Say Somethin” is one of the highlight tracks and indicative of an overall urban feel. The record focuses on bringing out Mariah’s best musical traits and a couple of the ballads, “Circles” and “Mine Again” exemplify her vocal status. She closes with a gospel-tinged “Fly Like A Bird”. Forget the cynicism and have a listen to a wonderfully well-rounded album. This could have been seen as a make-or-break record for Mariah but she well remembers her earlier success and therefore strives forward to present one of the best R&B releases this year. | ![]() |
