:: Matt Roberts - Now You Are GoneMatt RobertsGiven the recent success of fellow SNAGs James Blunt and Damien Rice, Matt Roberts should have no trouble finding a following with this effort. The first track, “The Tiger Song”, has a lovely lilting melody which is unfortunately ruined by Roberts’ propensity to elongate every vowel in order to make the song rhyme.
“Did you just say you love me/or was that the tell-ee-ee…” Please. It’s all downhill from here unfortunately as Roberts fails to engage with his less than inspired lyrics “You’ve got bubbles of nothing/Down to an art/You bum on the desk/The key to my heart.” Right. He aims for the heights of Jamie Cullum but falls embarrassingly short; a shame because his voice ain’t bad, it’s just what his does with it that’s painful. |
