:: Me And The Grownups - Battling the Mountains, the Sky and the SeaMe And The GrownupsThis CD is quite a revelation, and refreshing to discover a good act. Melbourne trio Me And The Grownups have been very proactive in getting their name out there, so that's a good starting point. They are unsigned and have produced this record themselves. From a couple of listens, I get the impression that this band should not be unknown for very long. Lots of emotion and insight in the lyrical and musical content make it very expressive and listenable (despite its length of just over an hour). The honest and effective vocals of Anita Lester are well backed by guitarist Adrian Sergovich and violinist/instrumentalist Jonathan Dreyfus. They communicate well in displaying both youthful exuberance and mature sensibilities. It's quite a different feel to hear a trio like them these days - the mix of jazz and classical without the usual structure, perhaps defying logic. Whether the fullness of the sound in arrangements and duration will win over the public remains to be seen. I would think that the band is versatile enough to refine, wherever necessary, in avoiding occasional instrumental lulls. However, there is much to be enthusiastic about. The classical wonderment and jazzy sophistication will grab your attention in a vivid and powerful way. It's a terrific debut for a band barely two years old. Me And The Grownups leave you with the feeling that there is much scope in their technical quality. It's a brave record that deserves to be heard. | ![]() http://www.myspace.com/meandthegrownups |
