:: Megadeth - EndgameMegadethYou can’t possibly believe what a relief it is to listen to a newly released metal album and find out that one of the old-guard have decided to reinvent themselves and try to appeal to a younger audience. When you’ve been together for 27 years like Megadeth have been there is no reason to change your sound. Thank goodness they haven’t and once again we get to savour this great thrash metal sound with their new release ‘Endgame’. The good news is that ‘Endgame’ is one of the finest recent Megadeth releases and fans will quickly lap it up… this also a great album for anybody that doesn’t know Megadeth to use as an introduction. That classic thrash metal sound is there for all to hear on ‘Dialectic Chaos’ and ‘This Day We Fight!’ while ’44 Minutes’ may not be what most would consider politically correct but the epic guitar solos are enough to make any guitarist get very excited indeed. Dave Mustaine and Chris Broderick then literally get their guitars to scream on ‘1,320’ and it’s an instant reminder on why you love the thrash metal sound so much. ‘Bite The Hand’ sees Megadeth inject a little bit of grunt into the album while it is easy to see ‘Bodies’ becoming a crowd favorite… and a track that commands to be sung along with. The title track, ‘Endgame’ has a political message for all to hear while ‘The Hardest Part Of Letting Go… Sealed With A Kiss’ is a ballad that Megadeth pull off amazingly… now you can’t say that about many metal bands can you? Once again the pace (and the grunt-meter) are lifted with ‘Head Crusher’ while I found myself singing along to ‘How The Story Ends’… it’s just so damn catchy. The album then finishes off with ‘The Right To Go Insane’ and it’s during it’s final bars that you realise that there simply isn’t one weak track to be found on this album. ‘Endgame’ is a reminder to why we have to keep Thrash Metal alive. The screaming guitars, the passion… we simply can’t lose any of that. Once again Megadeth show why they are the kings of thrash! | ![]() |
