I was introduced to Mei Lai Swan in the middle of the year when she approached me about this new EP she recorded. She is originally from Melbourne, now living in Alice Springs, Central Australia and has embarked on pursuing her music further than imagined. Maybe it's the red dirt and dryness in the desert surrounds, but Mei Lai has produced a charming set of songs. She shows an aptitude for different styles and, as a celloist, enhances the nature of her songs with this and other instruments. Sometimes life in a remote region can inspire songwriting to great lengths and this has occurred with Mei Lai capturing life as she sees it. Her voice is captivating and she now invites greater attention as she heads towards a debut album release in 2008.
