Well, we all know the trick: See the movie, buy the soundtrack! Yet, apart from Disney Movies and the Titanic, movie and music combos of bygone days, we have not been inundated with lucrative packages of movie soundtracks recently. This latest offering is Miami Vice, Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The glamourous Goldfrapp’s addition of Straight Machine should be played loudly, it is addictive, electro and sexy. The whole soundtrack has a techno, high powered dance base, naturally a perfect backdrop to Miami Vice. Yet, this is counteracted by a few softer songs that remind of the human side of action movies, perhaps play some Nina Simone’s Sinnerman or King Britt’s New World in My View when fast bullets, leather jackets and cold, reflective glasses get a bit intense. Moby is featured twice - his music is the kind of perfect back drop to action movies, like One of these Mornings and Anthem. Some people will like this high paced, heavily remixed and disjointed techno base album, yet those who seek an ‘easy listening.’ or lovely ambience tea party music will be disappointed. Then, and of course, obviously the main target audience - those who loved Miami Vice will buy this.
