:: Mic Conway's National Junk Band - Corporate ChookMic Conway's National Junk BandPerhaps the most important component of a comedy album is that it should be…well…funny. Mic Conway’s National Junk Band tries to emulate the comedy skills of The Chaser’s or Bob Rivers but they fall flat on their faces with an album that only your grandfather or your drunk uncle would find amusing. ‘Corporate Chook’ fails on a number of levels. As the band stumbles it’s way through the album using a mixture of unusual instruments songs like ‘Who Gave You A License To Drive Me Crazy?’ and ‘Hotcha Ooh La La’ end up sounding like someone gave the kindergarten kids some toys to play with. And while messing around with jazz, blues and country sounds the band manages to produce so very stupid love songs like ‘Wiki Waki Woo’, ‘Allergic To My Baby’ and ‘Nothing Works Well’. In fact of the seventeen tracks on the album only three songs works at all. ‘Crippled Inside’ and ‘Just Like That’ show what the album should have sounded like while the serious blues track, ‘Goodbye My Friend’ shows that underneath the silliness this band does have some skill. ‘Corporate Chicken’ stoops to an all time low on ‘Thief Of Old Bad Gags’; a song that makes fun of people who tell unfunny jokes; well here’s a hint guys, take a look in the mirror and you’ll see five of them. ‘Rubbish Wrap’ sees the band have a go at hip-hop artists and you can’t help but wonder…maybe even hope…that some rapper won’t try to settle the score. I’d say this album would be a good buy for your drunk uncle, but then you’d probably be unlucky enough to be forced to hear it…and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. | ![]() |
