:: Michael Peter - Something Along Those Lines

Michael Peter

Michael Peter has been one of Australia’s best-kept secrets for quite a while now. Hailing from the NSW Central Coast, his ‘Patched Up Heart EP’ was the one of the finest releases to surface in 2008, so it is little wonder that his debut full-length album, ‘Something Alone Those Lines’ is, as some of us expected, a brilliant album that showcases this man’s wonderful talents. Fans of Pete Murray will instantly warm to Peter’s terrific style, while his opening track ‘May’ not only shows his beautiful songwriting skills but also puts him in the same realm as Jack Johnson. ‘My Favourite’ is a smooth pop-rock song that is literally screaming out to be used in the next series of ‘Packed To The Rafters’ while ‘Shop Around’ sees a heavier and darker side to Peter… and a brilliant swipe at society as we know it. ‘Feminine Skin’ also sees Peter make a massive statement despite it’s terrific folk stylings… the folk sound is also present on ‘Heads Up’, which is one of the most beautiful love songs to surface in quite awhile. Again Michael Peter shows what a wonderful songwriter he is with ‘The Story’, a unique track that’s historical theme is normally only produced by the amazing Paul Kelly. However one of the finest tracks here is ‘Spider’… a powerful song about abuse that you simply find yourself listening to over and over. In fact there are no weak tracks here at all, ‘Hypersensitive’ is a close to perfection as you could possibly get while ‘Naughty Thing’ is seduction at it’s best, while the folky ‘Golden Handcuffs’ reveals Michael Peter’s story-telling vocals. His amazing voice also surfaces on ‘A Little More’, while the slower ‘Monsters To A Child’ calls on strings to make it a sensational song. Michael Peter does it again. It is hard to imagine ‘Something Along Those Lines’ not making my ‘Top Albums of 2009’ list. This is an amazing album that showcases one of Australia’s finest musical talents.
