Hitting retailers’ shelves just prior to Christmas is the Ministry of Sound’s latest effort The Annual 2009. The franchise continues to plug out compilations, so many it must be overwhelming for the casual dance fan. This is only one of the MOS brands amongst an array of others. Household names like Moby, Fatboy Slim, DJ Sneak and Groove Armada are the major draw for those curious; all artists worthy of affiliation. It’s a hard task what MOS attempt to conquer each year and that is building upon the foundation of the previous year’s release. This album should prove a success, as the format and style seem much the same as the others complete with remixes of pop songs and some original tracks. But if you were to compare this US release to some of the European releases, it really doesn’t stand as a worthy contemporary. It has become apparent that US techno compilation releases don’t compare to those of their brotherly compatriot. Worthy checking out for the die-hard MOS fan.
