:: Modey Lemon - The Curious CityModey LemonA little on the amateurish sounding side, Modey Lemon and their album ‘The Curious City’ is an electronic, garage-rock type of release. There are times when it works (‘In Another Land’) and times when it doesn‘t ('Fingers, Drains’). After trimming themselves to a two-piece five years ago and becoming bass-free by doing so, this American act have increased their size, albeit by one, by including an engineer who plays the keyboards and provides the effects - but who also brought back the bass. An eccentric and erratic combo (just one look at their cover should tell you all you need to know) these guys are interesting to say the least. At various points throughout ‘The Curious City’ they rock, with songs such as ‘Bucket Of Butterflies’ and ‘Mountain Mist (The Universe Comes Undone)’ working a real treat. While at other moments they sound more like an electronic dance act - ‘Red Lights’ and ‘Trapped Rabbits’ - which makes them hard to classify and fully appreciate but I suppose that's their appeal.
