In this ongoing and fascinating series of musical images from particular cities of the world, Petrol Records has now focused its attention in releasing a selection of music from the mysterious Moscow. A significant cultural upturn occurred fifteen years ago when the “Wall”came down and the Russia forged its own identity away from the clutches of the old Soviet Union. It saw Moscow become a burgeoning clubbers’ paradise. This CD also indicates the subtle variations that include downtempo elements and quite experimental and eclectic pieces of music. The Russian producers are an inventive lot and it’s an opportunity to have their names and styles put forward to music lovers around the world, and particularly here in Australia. The task is complete: attractive cover sleeve, interesting music and it comes from a city that believes in itself musically. It’s well worth a listen and adds another dimension to the fantastic City series.
