:: Muse - Absolution

Muse

Since 1999, Muse has been building on an eclectic heavy rock sound, releasing two albums to staggering sales figures in ’99 and ‘01. Their third one, Absolution, is by far their most epic and recognized work. Matt Bellamy’s soulful croon is the kind of voice you just know is going to die young. Luckily for us, at 22, he will still be young for a while yet. The emotion that he injects into the songs on Absolution is achingly intense. The best albums are the ones you have to listen to a few times before you start to understand what the artist is doing, and Absolution definitely fits into that category. As you peel away the layers of this album, walking through corridors of classical music lined with rock ballads and metal trim, the depth emerges suddenly like an airbag, blossoming in time-lapse grandiosity. The band is reaching across the impenetrable membrane of youth, seeking innocence again, but Matt’s voice tells us that you can’t get it back…no matter how hard you try. His words are like prayers.
