:: Mystro - Diggi Down Unda

Mystro

In a revolutionary concept album, international MC Mystro enlists Australian and New Zealand artists to create Diggi Down Unda, an album with flavours of the sunburnt country and our east-coast neighbour. Featuring the very best of Aussie hip-hop, the recruitment of local artists makes for a unique blend unlike produce from either Mystro’s native UK or Australia singularly. National favourites The Hilltop Hoods, Macromantics, Muph and Maya Jupiter all lend their lyrical talents to the album. Mystro is more electronic and synth-based than his local counterparts who tend to add more instrumental layers to their music. Not to say its simplicity is a downfall but the album’s repetitive nature is less likely to appeal to the mainstream than some of the featuring artists. The album is traditional in its style, with beats more influenced by US rap than Aussie hip-hop. But its clear Mystro is highly respected by Australian artists who jumped at the opportunity to appear on the album’s line-up. The artist joins songs by playfully mocking local dialogue and jokingly taking an easy swipe at Steve Irwin. Wizard of Oz and Fling Him On the Barbee are upbeat album highlights with slightly more depth than the remainder of the album. Diggi Down Unda is likely to appeal to hip-hop die-hards but those with a general liking for the featuring artists and producers might not appreciate its traditional style.
