:: Nardoo - Beyond The FieldsNardooOk, heads up. Something a little different here. Zana Clarke and Peter Biffin live in Armidale. Peter plays a fretless banjo, a fretless guitar and a banjo/ukulele, Zana sings and plays the frame drum, recorder and ‘vocalised’ recorder. What pray tell is that, a ‘vocalised’ recorder is a technique Zana utilises to sing and play recorder simultaneously. Their third release as ‘Nardoo’, the result here is somewhere in-between Tony Connor’s relaxation recordings and mellowed, forest type, Celtic meanderings. Meanderings is a term I use advisably as, in their own words in the liner notes, “we were keen to make a recording where spontaneity was the central theme…all of the music was improvised as it was being recorded…the shape and direction of each piece unfolded as we played, like a map that was gradually materialising between us.” |
