:: Natalie Bassingthwaighte - 1000 StarsNatalie BassingthwaighteHaving started 2009 with a bang, courtesy of her first solo single ‘Someday Soon’, Natalie Bassingthwaighte has released her first solo album. It is soon apparent that you can tell that Natalie was keen to express herself freely and reveal her true self. There are various elements to her personality and the dance and theatre-orientated aspects show out in several tracks. From being mostly upbeat, she can also deliver more poignant tunes - conjuring up light and shade amongst pop-rock and soulful flavours. Natalie co-wrote some of the tracks and worked with some well-respected writers. Perhaps one can suggest that the tracks that she didn‘t wrote won't reveal herself too much - that will come in future offerings. As far as a few highlights go, the retro opening track 'Catch Me If You Can’ is extremely catchy with its electro inspirations. The song ‘Love Like This’ offers a luscious beat and Natalie‘s typically energetic vocals. She is pensive and purposeful on 'Feel The Flow’ and ‘Superhuman’. Overall, it's her powerful and edgy vocal style that exudes emotional and danceable tunes and demonstrates how she continues to mature as a music maker. There will be more improvement in the future as Natalie develops the songwriting and attitude that she is capable of. In the meantime, this album delivers a feel-good and pop-laden quality that should fulfill her growing fanbase and creates a worthy connection to lovers of pop music generally. | ![]() |
