:: Nelly Furtado - FolkloreNelly FurtadoNelly had a sudden rise to stardom with her “Whoa Nelly” debut album. She then had a baby and gone through a lengthy writing process and experimenting with several potential producers. It’s now resulted in “Folklore”. The album probably isn’t as diverse and far-reaching than her previous work. You could previously have expected the unexpected. In other words, she doesn’t really let loose as much as I thought. However, and it’s a free and easy style and invigorating as the acoustic-base and hip-hop beats don’t stray far. Her Latin roots are filtered throughout the album and she demonstrates this love and enthusiasm with castanets amongst the percussive beats. This will endear her to listeners for some nice diversity. Most of these songs won’t be as radio friendly as the previous album, but Nelly has strived to do things her own way without compromise. She sought out specific people to work with and her endeavours have led to songs with messages and with an experimental dose. Give this set a few listens and you’ll like it. |
