:: New Order - Waiting For The Siren’s CallNew OrderNever sounding out of date, the UK maestros serve it up again with another near-perfect pop fit of great melodies and verve. New Order has the uncanny knack of always sounding hip and cool. For this, their eighth album, the band slot in neatly alongside present day “new boys” in with Franz Ferdinand, The Killers and the whole current indie scene. New Order's combination of melodic pop and killer bass lines sounds as appropriate now as it did when they formed from the remains of Joy Division all those years ago. They thunder into the future with this great combination of swooping atmospheres and cool melodies. They sit as elder statesmen from the Manchester scene and can sit and observe bands like Doves make their own inroads and be proud of the standards set for the younger generation. They show the means of making more than surviving forays into how people can bop and shuffle to. The electro-pop roots are evident and will satisfy fans who may not have completely enjoyed the rock output of the last three years. There is the brooding mood of “Turn” and the title track that reaches back to the very early years, whilst latest single “Krafty” is pure New Order bliss. The guys have even roped in one of the Scissor Sisters, Ana Matronic, on the track “Jet Stream”, which may win new friends. We see the coming and going of various fads and trends, yet, despite going through various bouts of ups and downs themselves over a long time, New Order still make great pop sounds that are cool to this day. The smooth vocals, guitars and synths rest comfortably in one’s mind. Even without too many risks, they can still set benchmarks for others still trying to reach any reasonable status. | ![]() |
