We couldn’t have a music selection covering various cities around the world without the inclusion of New York. One of the most exciting, invigorating places for musical culture, much of the cutting edge music from the States comes from the Big Apple. The idea of these compilations by Petrol Records is brilliant, yet it’s time-consuming and difficult to capture the right cuts. They will always create a talking point. Most music fans should applaud this one. The right elements are covered – the lounge/downbeat style, the hip-hop aspects, the garage punk, and the strong electro-jazz from New York. These tracks are from the recent past and it’s a fine collection. Check out Le Tigre, The Rapture, RJD2, Boris Gardener, to name a few. Overall, it’s well selected and compelling listening.
