:: New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even ThisNew York DollsIt has been thirty-two years since their last album – must be a world record. The two surviving members from that era – David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain – are bolstered by new enthusiastic band members and guest artists to produce a welcome and likeable comeback that deserves rewards. When they announced their intentions in 2005 Roadrunner Records came in to show the level of faith to get the band’s momentum. The 70s glam band does sound rejuvenated and the guests, including Iggy Pop, Bo Diddley and REM’s Michael Stipe, give the energy for the Dolls to take the music to a top level. There are still the 60s blues influences and they can be felt in tracks such as “Gimme Love And Turn On The Light”, and “Plenty Of Music”. They add to a brilliant opening number “We’re All In Love” and it sets up a tantalising album. There is still a fiery kick in their armour and show that they can still reach a high standard. They were known to influence punk and rock acts in the 1980s. These songs are generally catchy, hooky, and come with excellent production, resulting in a great return to music. | www.myspace.com/newyorkdolls |
