:: Nic Armstrong - The Greatest White LiarNic ArmstrongIt is a matter for debate whether or not authentic swinging sixties music has a place in today’s Idol clogged charts. However there can be no debate about the talents of Nic Armstrong, because put simply, he’s the real deal, baby! Armstrong’s debut album, The Greatest White Liar, encapsulates so many magnificent elements of a time in music that was characterised by fervent expression. Both lyrically beautiful and musically comfortable, it’s an album that will have you convinced it’s been ripped from another time and place completely. So reminiscent of the sixties is White Liar that Armstrong deserves kudos for not descending into cheap mimicry. White Liar is not an album of covers and, aside from two tracks, has been penned entirely by Armstrong himself. It would be amiss to write Armstrong off as another Michael Buble, repackaging a popular style for a new generation, because if stood up next to today’s popular artists he is easily the most unique and exciting performer around. White Liar is an intoxicating mix of ballad, rock and swing. It’s movement from contemplative love song to untamed and unruly British pop is quite magnificent. The tracks ‘I’ll Come To You’, and ‘Back In That Room’ are perfect examples of this musical ying and yang. Lucky for us Armstrong was not born in the sixties and lost in a plethora of similar acts. He’s here right now for us to enjoy. Don’t miss out! | ![]() |
