:: Nightmares On Wax - In A Space Outta Sound

Nightmares On Wax

The long awaited album by George Evelyn, one of Warp’s most popular acts, “Nightmares on Wax”, offers an individualistic style of music. Awash with hallucinogenic hip-hop, the album incorporates old style with new. A somewhat difficult album to define, the tracks sometimes lack substance. Repetitive beats, lack of melody and tune, intro’s to songs that go on forever, is enough to put anyone to sleep. The album is the work of an individual and of such is very unique. The tunes and melodies are very simple, but rarely is there a change in tempo or beat. The distinct sound of this album does serve to separate it from the crowd. Progression and development is the motivation behind this album it is said, but at times it seems to lack any sort op pull to encourage a further listen. Some have labeled this album as fantastic and in all fairness it comes down to personal taste. While I may not have warmed to this album, you just might. But if you’re in two minds, give it a miss.
