:: Nikki Yanofsky - NikkiNikki YanofskySixteen-year-old Canadian singer Nikki Yanofsky is one of the young breed of promising artists set to further their mark in 2011. She recently released her debut album ‘Nikki’ and it‘s a fine, spirited set of songs that reflect Nikki's love of jazz, blues and pop. It has already gone 4xPlatinum in Canada. Nikki demonstrates talent to burn with her near-perfect pitch and a terrific style for someone so young. The album was produced by award-winning producer Phil Ramone and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Jesse Harris (worked with Norah Jones), Nikki seems to sing effortlessly across various musical ranges and draws on inspiration by past greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. On these songs she has collaborated with Ron Sexsmith and there is a song written by Feist also. One of the highlight tracks is 'Cool My Heels’, that Nikki co-wrote, which leans towards modern pop. With an authentic feel for music, she transports the listener into a world of night clubs and cabarets where spirits and money flowed freely, and big bands and big voices mesmerise the audience. This is a very listenable album and one can only wonder what Nikki can do when her voice matures further. What an album like this can achieve is bringing jazz music to a very young audience, and it will be interesting to see the lasting effects. | ![]() http://www.nikkionline.ca/ |
