Ojos De Brujo

Ojos De Brujo has made a big impression in recent years, particularly with their performance at the Glastonbury Festival and several European TV appearances. There is much colour and enthusiasm in their style. The flavoursome Spanish vibe, full of contemporary hip-hop and flamenco influences should endear the listener. It’s not that they stretch boundaries greatly, but the sheer talent to throw in a few little beats, scratches, and accessible noises make the set entertaining and effective. The passion of brilliant lead singer Marina Abad, the encouraging DJ Panko as the turntablist, and Max the percussionist brings a brisk element. This outfit is one of Barcelona’s favourites and the individual characteristics of the group shine solidly. It’s interesting to note that this outfit, as we might call them, actually operates as their own entity, producing their own albums and operating outside of a normal record company existence. They are very much a working class outfit, inspired by various street cultures and able to fuse a unique musical representation. Look out for guest performances from Nitin Sawhney, Fraada Freddy from Daara J and Cuban tres player Raùl Rodriguez. The CD also comes enhanced with several features: a 15-minutes documentary of the band rehearsing and performing on tour, photos, lyrics, three videos, lyrics, booklet, and excellent packaging to give it an overall special edition look.
