:: Olivia Eden - Ordinary GirlOlivia EdenThere are countless female singers in the world’s music industry and it is difficult for any of them to avoid comparisons. On first impression, Australia’s Olivia Eden reminded me of Juliana Hatfield without the grubby edges. A similar vocal style over pop melodies, but unfortunately without the edginess Hatfield is famous for. Ordinary Girl (the title track) opens the album with its upbeat air, many harmonies and slightly elementary lyrics (I’m not a superstar/I’m an ordinary girl). The ballads of the album including Smile and Creations gave some new hope and a more sincere insight into Eden’s personality and story. They also evoked resemblance to The Corrs and Eden has often said people think she has a Celtic sound. Unfortunately Olivia Eden still washed over me, but would suit those fans of soft, sweet voices and pop sensibilities. | ![]() |
