:: Panic At The Disco - Vices & VirtuesPanic At The DiscoNot many people thought Panic! At The Disco had the skills to pull off an album after the loss of the two members made the successful four-piece a two-piece, but then again this is a band that have been surprising people from the start… there was once a time when most people were convinced that these guys were nothing but one-hit wonders. So it shouldn’t be such a surprise to learn that their new album (their third) Vices & Virtues actually turns out to be an okay album with just two members at the helm. First single “The Ballad Of Mona Lisa” shows that Panic! At The Disco still have the ability to create a damn catchy single while “Let’s Kill Tonight” sees a more electronic feel to Panic!… and the good news is that it works and seems to suit them. The electronic feel is even more obvious with “Hurricane” which cheekily suggests ‘that you’ll dance to anything’. The twists and turns of Vices & Virtues continues with “Memories” and “Trade Mistakes” which sees some classical instruments introduced and it’s certainly a sound that Panic! At The Disco can pull off… the vocals on these two tracks also sound exceptional. “Ready To Go (Get Me Out Of My Mind)” has real anthem feel to it and is ever so catchy while “Always” is slowed down and if you listen really carefully you’ll hear some real poetry in the lyrics. “The Calender” is another anthem and is just as infectious as “Sarah Smiles”… the latter being so catchy it should certainly be released as a single. “Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met…)” even sees Panic! sound a lot like the Scissor Sisters mixed in with some My Chemical Romance. While not sensational, Vices & Virtues is still a pretty good album considering what Panic! At The Disco have been through recently. Well worth a listen. | ![]() |
