:: Paul Greene - Everywhere Is HomePaul GreeneNormally when you hear the words athlete turned musician it is a sign to steer clear but that isn’t the case when you are talking about former Olympic athlete Paul Greene. Since hanging up his boots Greene has established quite a career in the blues/roots/county world alongside former Midnight Oil band-member Rob Hirst, and if you love acoustic music then I get the feeling you are going to love Greene’s latest offering ‘Everywhere Is Home’. Tracks such as ‘Ease Up’ quickly show that Greene can produce music equally as good as Australia’s leading acoustic artists such as Pete Murray or Alex Lloyd. ‘Stop Blaming Someone Else’ reveals Greene knows how to produce a good melody while ‘Drifting’ conjures up a real roots feel. Greene further cements himself as a musician with some wonderful guitar chords on ‘Might Have Arrived’. ‘Everybody Got A Little Love’ is a bluesy classic while Greene shows his Aussie larrikin side on ‘My My’. Anybody still doubting Greene’s music prowess will be completely blown away by ‘Wasted It’ which sounds so good it could be off the latest Ben Harper album. ‘Never Too Big to Fall’ sees the album slow down completely while ‘You Should Know’ again reveals some sweet chords. The album finishes off with too fine acoustic numbers with ‘See This One Through’ and ‘Stay On’. ‘Everywhere Is Home’ is surprisingly good, not just because Greene used to be an athlete, but because this is the guy’s seventh album and he still isn’t a household name. A musician this good deserves lots of cred and I for one will be telling all music fans just how good this album is. A hidden treasure just waiting to be discovered. | ![]() |
