:: Peabody - The New Violence

Peabody

The band’s growth over the past few years has resulted in this album being their best work to date. The effectiveness of their rock melodies, together with fine production from Jamie Hutchings (of Bluebottle Kiss), ensures a worthy listen. It is the second album for the Sydney three-piece band and they cleverly mix the vibe and atmosphere of the sounds to keep you guessing. There is a good pace and link between the tracks with feisty attitudes of angst and social concerns. The catchy nature of “Synaesthesia” opens the album well and it continues through tracks such as “Don’t Lose It” and “Got You On My Radar”, with an exciting chorus. A bonus on this album is the vocal contribution from the stunningly talented Sarah Blasko. Listen to her sing seductively on “The Weight Just Right” and “Song For Val”. Overall, Peabody shows maturity in the ferocious, aggressive songs and this album should appeal strongly across music followers. Because of Jamie Hutchings’ influence the work between Bluebottle Kiss and Peabody has been closely aligned. Peabody therefore deserves credit for stepping forward in a fervent way in one of this year’s better Australian albums.
