:: Pegz - Axis

Pegz

‘Axis’ is Aussie hip-hop legend Pegz latest album and some say it is his greatest to date. The breakout track ‘Back Then’ is definitely a standout on the record. His local boy and Melbourne influences shine through in the lyrics, with ‘Rip-Curl Trucker Hats’, ‘Big M’ and ‘St Kilda junkies’ being utilised in a number of places. Pegz New-York influences are a strong feature on the catchy album too. There are soulful organ underlays and jazz rhythms in the song ‘Chechen Gorilla’, which make for an interesting but genius hip-hop sound. Check-out the songs ‘Cro-Magnon’ and ‘What Would Happen’ for some thoughtful, tough and cheeky lyrics. Sitting right alongside Pegz hip-hop is the expressive melodies that complete many of the songs and Pegz has his sister to thank for that. This is definitely the work of an artist who knows what he is doing. ‘Axis’ is mischievous, captivating and optimistic and you can’t help but bop along to its catchy beat. Definitely worth a listen.
