:: Pete Murray - Summer At EurekaPete MurrayPete Murray doesn’t even have to leave his home to record his music now, he has a studio at his ranch and perhaps that is why there is such a relaxed feeling to his new album, ‘Summer At Eureka’. On this album Murray returns to the greatness that was found on his earlier album, ‘Feeler’. Murray mixes up his sound on ‘Summer At Eureka’; while ‘Chance To Say Goodbye’ has an almost country to feel to it ‘Saving Grace’ sounds a lot like the acoustic rock that was hailing from the U.S. in the 60s. The first single off ‘Summer At Eureka’, ‘You Pick Me Up’ is also a new sound for Murray. It sounds like a slower version of Powderfinger and consists of a perfect chorus that is guaranteed to attract commercial radio play. Murray returns to his typical slow, smooth acoustic sound on Silver Cloud’ and ‘This Game’ and then shows on ‘Sugar’ why he is becoming one of Australia’s finest guitarists. The only let down on ‘Summer At Eureka’ is ‘Miss Cold’ which is very ordinary clap-along rock that has been heard a million times before. But that is soon forgotten when you hear the best tracks on the album. ‘Never Let The End Begin’ and ‘Happy Ground’ which are Murray at his best; the latter is one of the best songs to come out of Australia this year. Like all of Murray’s albums ‘Summer At Eureka’ is smooth and joy to listen to. One of Australia’s finest musicians just gets better and better. | ![]() |
