:: Pet Shop Boys - YesPet Shop BoysIf The Pet Shop Boys were cricket batsman now would be the time for them to take off the helmet, kiss the Coat Of Arms and raise the bat towards the grandstand because reaching the feat of ten studio albums in the fickle world of modern music is the equilvant of reaching a century. They have now been in the industry for 23 years and still sound as good as they did on Day One. New album ‘Yes’ doesn’t find The Pet Shop Boys do anything different; they know their music is great and they know that their fans love it that way so once again they deliver eleven of the best electro-pop songs that you are ever likely to hear. Everything you love about Pet Shop Boy albums is to be found here. ‘Love etc.’ and ‘Vulnerable’ both have the classic Pet Shop Boys smooth pop sound that has made these two the legends they are. ‘All Over The World’ has a heavy bassline that is made to listen to on the way home from a club, ‘Beautiful People’ has a melody that has to be heard to be believed and ‘Did You See Me Coming?’ is so catchy you’ll be singing along with it in no time. The Pet Shop Boys reinvent disco for a new generation with ‘More Than A Dream’ which is also a track that makes you realise that these guys are, and have always been ahead of their time. ‘Building A Wall’ has a classic feel to it, while ‘King Of Rome’ and ‘The Way It Used To Be’ both have a depth in their lyrics that most songwriters simply forget about these days. By far though the best tracks on ‘Yes’ are ‘Pandemonium’; a track that reminds you just how good pop music can be and ‘Legacy’ that sounds like some of the classic tracks that The Pet Shop Boys have hidden away as B-Sides in the past. ‘Yes’ is an amazing album that shows even after 23 years in the business The Pet Shop Boys are still as fresh and exciting as they have ever been. | ![]() |
