:: Pico - Morning Sun

Pico

Pico is a new artist to me but he has been around the scene, especially in the northern reaches (or rather beaches) of Queensland as a surfer/musician. He has epitomised the Noosa/Coolum surf sound for several years and has produced surf soundtracks to good effect. Therefore, you might realise that Pico's new album comes across as pretty cruise-driven and unflappable as the scene invites. The songs probably take a few listens to absorb but Pico sings in a easy, simple and mid-tempo fashion setting up the right atmospheres with guitar and piano. It works well with a minimum of fuss and Pico is ably backed with seasoned musicians. The vocals are of a heartfelt, gentle style showing that touch of vulnerability to sit in the soundscapes. He sings of subjects relating to the water and the environment, which is only natural as is his background. The album could be considered one that will grow, but it's an effective method for Pico to deliver his thoughts in a low-key, yet warm-hearted, manner.
