:: Pineapple Express - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Pineapple Express

You know a soundtrack is in serious trouble when the best sounding tracks on it are the film score especially created for the film and not the so called ‘classic’ songs that the producers have paid big cash for to get the rights to. In this case producer, Judd Apatow was seriously ripped off. Fans of Huey Lewis And The News will be disappointed that the song they wrote for this film, ‘Pineapple Express’, is an example of just how bad pop music can be, while for the most part this is an album of very ordinary hip-hop and reggae. The soundtrack even manages to dig up bad songs from Public Enemy (‘Lost At Birth’) and Cypress Hill (‘Dr Greenthumb), now that is saying something. Graeme Revell saves the day with his piece of film score titled, ‘Pineapple Chase’ which matches the film’s 1970’s action feel, and even manages to use a didgeridoo. The good songs are few and far between with only ‘Electric Avenue’ by Eddy Grant, ‘Tha Crossroads’ by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and ‘I Didn’t Mean To Hurt You’ by Spiritualized worth second listens. The film rocks, but the soundtrack is a big miss… you wouldn’t wish this one on your worst enemies.
