:: P.O.D. - Greatest Hits

P.O.D.

While admittedly it is taking an easy swipe, I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering why P.O.D. has released a greatest hits album. It’s difficult to see the logic in releasing an album of seventeen songs claiming to be a selection of the greatest when the band only has a handful of chart-topping songs. But for listeners who shared my thoughts, the cover insert contains a whole three pages explaining just why they deserve such a release. It seems even more pretentious to claim divine intervention was responsible for the release of their song “Alive” on September 11, 2001. However, if you were a fan of tunes such as Youth of the Nation and Southtown this collection will provide more of the same; rock/rap anthems with light-at-the-end-of-the-journey themes. P.O.D. is at the higher end of the Christian rock scale and deliver some memorable and catchy tunes. The band has strong similarities to Lincoln Park and is likely to appeal to mainstream listeners. While these tunes are nothing revolutionary, the band does have a formula that works and fans of their early hits would enjoy the album.
