:: Polly Paulusma - Scissors In My PocketPolly PaulusmaFrom being a backing vocalist on the UK indie scene a few years ago, Polly now comes out of the shadows to make a very assured solo debut album. She had gone in twelve months ago to record a demo and had it all ready for action by the time the One Little Indian label signed her up to a deal. Therefore, in producing it herself, she freshened it up, put more of the demo “vibe” to it and it’s now out there to see what a glorious voice she has. It seems so peaceful and smooth yet it generates fine lyrical strength. This album might prove to be one of the best of its kind this year, as listeners are growing into the more mature sounding styles. Songs like “Give It Back” has a funky, swing style sure to be liked, while the folk-tinged meander of “I Was Made To Love You” demonstrates Polly’s clear vocal skill. There’s the poignancy of “Perfect 4/4” to feel touched by, and the effective, jazzy “Anywhere From Here”. Polly has been touring with Jamie Cullum (who is soon to tour Australia) and she is rightfully making her presence felt by this gorgeous album. Well-written and a relaxed singing style paves the way for one of the discoveries of 2004. |
