:: Pony Girl & the Outsiders - Rebel RebelPony Girl & the OutsidersIf you’re a fan of the Melbourne live music scene then chances are you’ve come across Pony Girl & The Outsiders. If you haven’t heard of them then take out a pen and write their name down because you’ve just been told about one of the most exciting bands to surface in Australia this year. Let’s be blunt: their new album Rebel Rebel is one of the finest albums to be released this year and I fell in love with it straight away. The opening track ‘That Girl’ is heavy and intense and if you’ve been craving The Magic Dirt of old then you’ve found it here. It’s followed up by ‘Man Up’ a rock track with balls and then comes ‘Out Tonight’ with some absolutely brilliant pieces of guitar and a style that is lot like Courtney Love’s glory days with Hole. The great sound of ‘Intervention Betty’ makes it a track I could listen to over and over and then comes the brilliance. ‘My Love Is Not Blind’ is truly sensational, one of the best tracks to surface in 2011, and has already cemented itself in my list of Top 100 Songs of All Time… it is amazing. The slow and sweet ‘Rain On Me’ is screaming out to be used on a soundtrack while the smooth ‘Dirty Talk’ reveals just how talented this bad is. ‘If You Want Me’ is another beautiful track and ‘Rebel Rebel’ makes you fall in love with the band all over again. If you’re jaded with music and feel nothing good is coming out then you have to give Rebel Rebel a listen. I’m pretty sure debut albums are not supposed to sound this good, if Pony Girl & The Outsiders get better with age then they will be one of the best bands to ever walk this planet. This is a stunning album that I can’t recommend highly enough. | ![]() |
