:: The Red Paintings - WallsThe Red PaintingsThe Red Paintings is a former Victorian band, now living in Queensland. Good marketing and hype has resulted in a deal of publicity and radio airplay for this EP. With an orchestral structure to the sound and zany attitude, there is plenty of interest in listening to the CD. Music lovers will probably face a mixed response to the lush orchestration, which results in lengthy songs, and the general experimental nature delivered. But I’m sure the band will gain new fans and the apparent craziness of the live shows will probably outweigh their recordings as far as the curiosity factor goes. One track to note is “Mad World”, which is a cover of the old Tears For Fears song. The title track has also been well received. It’s worth saying that, despite the merits or otherwise of the songs at hand, this band has made their own statement about the music they wish to create. Their ingenuity should be applauded at least. Look out for them on their upcoming tour. | ![]() |
