:: The Red Paintings - Feed The Wolf

The Red Paintings

When a recent television program stated that Brisbane was listed as one of the top 25 places in the world to watch for emerging music artists I couldn’t help but say ‘Duh!’ Look back at my music reviews over the last four years and you’ll note that I have been saying this for some time now. The Red Paintings latest release ‘Feed the Wolf’ proves that both the tv show and I are indeed correct. ‘Feed the Wolf’ is a dark and moody piece of work, almost gothic sounding. It combines high orchestral arrangements and strong rock sensibilities. These elements work together to create something that is both unique and appealing. The imagery painted by the music is vivid, a picture of those dispossessed, lost and unloved, yet who manage to find a voice in all the turmoil. This is particularly evident in the track ‘Sing’, a mellow anthem that encourages us to throw caution to the wind and find strength in who we are. Despite its heavy tones and imagery ‘Feed the Wolf’ is exceptionally uplifting, not to mention completely captivating. To add further kudos to band, the EP has been produced without the assistance of a record company, instead helped along by fans who believe the band has something special to offer. The Red Paintings are fiercely independent, and proud they can pass onto their fans the music they have created untouched by managerial or record exec influences. This tactic appears to have worked as the EP shines. It is as polished and professional as any mainstream release and most importantly sounds fantastic.
