It takes some effort to compile a list of artists who can satisfactorily perform versions of Beatles‘ songs. Very few have been able to do them justice in the past. This is a celebration of forty years since the great 'Rubber Soul’ album. The artists selected try to give their best shot to this important and ground-breaking album. It actually starts well with The Donnas giving a spirited version of ‘Drive My Car’, probably the best effort on the compilation. Other worthy moments come from Ben Lee, with a poignant ‘In My Life’, and Low‘s simple and effective 'Nowhere Man’. The other artists struggle in bringing their talents anywhere close to what they should have, although the final track, ‘Run For Your Life’, by the Cowboy Junkies, at least shows some individual flair in trying to present something that fits the mood of the songs. Unfortunately, for the most part, this noteworthy and historic chapter of The Beatles' work hasn't been given the proper treatment.
