:: RuC.L - Straight Down the Line

RuC.L

RuC.L’s debut album ‘Straight Down The Line’ has a smooth hip-hop feel and is an easy sinuous listen. Written predominantly by the artist himself (Reuben Campbell), the lyrics are hard-hitting, tough, and create an era of personal tension and struggle. ‘Nothing To Lose’ is about a boy from the bad-side of town who has something to prove and wont stop at anything to get where he wants to be. With a slightly “Shaggy” sounding accent, stemming from his Jamaican heritage, he sings “Won’t stop until I’m the menace of this rap game, f**k fame that comes with it, I’m already famous”. It’s an honest sound and he tells it straight-forward the only way he knows it. ‘It’s Like That’ with its local libretto and captivating rhythms will also appeal to listeners close to home. Although the album is geared towards a hip-hop audience, ‘Straight Down The Line’ spills over into an R&B sound. RuC.L’s debut album has potential, but needs slightly more jolt in its jingle. A driven artist with plenty of talent, he will go far in the budding Australian hip-hop industry.
