:: Sander Van Dorn - Supernaturalistic

Sander Van Dorn

While the name Sander Van Doorn wouldn’t mean much to most people, but to lovers of trance this has been the album that they have been looking forward to for a long time. This Dutchman has really hit the ground running. This is his debut album but already he has been listed in DJMag;s Top 100 DJ list, has played Ibiza and The Gallery in London and won ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ at the International Dance Music Awards. For the most part ‘Supernaturalistic’ is a minimalist album. Van Doorn doesn’t go for the grand, he gets in, gets his job done and gets out. While trance is normally viewed as an uplifting genre there is a hint of darkness ever present throughout this album and it’s there right from the first track, ‘Look Inside Your Head’.
For the most part this album is full of old school trance, ‘By Any Demand’, ‘Pura Vida’, ‘Sushi’, ‘The Bass’ and ‘Grasshopper’ all follow that trend while ‘Riff’ begins in the old school style but soon builds into a whole lot more. ‘15’ is heavy and intense before it gives way to a moody epic sound, while ‘Lobby’ calls upon melody and ethereal sound to become the best track on the album. The ethereal sound continues on the bass heavy ‘Apple’ while ‘Dozer’ is dark and menacing like a shark threatening to attack. While ‘Supernaturalistic’ may be minimalist it packs a heavy punch and it is only a matter of time before we are mentioning the name Sander Van Doorn in the same sentence as Armand Van Helden or Fatboy Slim. This is a great album that shows trance is alive and well.
